Write about Love

"Write about Love" is a film about a female writer who has to finish writing a love story with another male writer.

The film tries to relate fact with fiction. This is manifested in the interplay of the life of both writers as their story unfolds. Consequently, one cannot but wonder whether love is either fact or fiction.

Such is the challenge of genres like this - the portrayal of love like a children’s story with a happy ending vis-a-vis one that faces imperfections and sacrifices brought about by an imperfect love. The audience is left to decide whether to face this reality with one's own life or continue with fantasy normally found in theaters today.

The Host

The host is a story of a young girl whose body is invaded by an alien and she doesn't want it inside of her.

It is quite an unusual situation in science fiction movies that aliens have something "pure" in them.  Thus, they're always something to be feared.  It becomes more confusing that the pure, virtues world they aim to create is attained through the unwanted intrusion of an unwilling host which makes this film "unbelievable".

Culturally, the iconography of aliens is a recurring sting of America which always finds itself defensive against aliens with whom they are always trying to understand.

However, Stephanie Meyer would always be famous for injecting a love story in the world of aliens and science fiction, as depicted in the three way battle for love.

However, the film is to  be commended for depicting the vulnerable condition of a soul and its inherent goodness, qualities which we human beings could have if we treat life as sacred.

Twilight saga: Breaking dawn part 2

“Breaking Dawn, part 2” is the last part of the Twilight saga featuring a young girl in love with a vampire who does everything to defend her child from being killed.

I was caught off guard by the events that transpired in the film.  Without spoiling anything, the twist gives the film the acclaim it deserves.

Looking back at all the other episodes, this film, using the backdrop of vampires and wolves, really have something to say about life, love, friendship, and being.  In the context of humanity’s imperfect existence, it is still a beautiful world because it contains one treasured gift given to mankind – the power of love.

Eclipse

Eclipse is a film about a vampire who swears to protect his human girlfriend from the vengeance of one of his kind.

The 3rd episode of the Twilight saga, this film showed remarkable continuity from its previous episodes as if the 4 films were shot at all at the same time.  It just depends on the time of its release.  Though as work of art, we still need to justify the rationality behind a love story told from the point of view of a vampire and a werewolf.   It is the actors / actresses that are the film's main asset as the audience keep abreast of what would possibly happen with this love triangle.  The fourth episode may be the greatest crowd drawer of all.

This may be a love story, but the idea of selling one's soul just to be one with the dead may be the very reason why this film is repulsive.  Moreover, a passion in its extremist form as symbolized by a werewolf is equally revolting as well.  Most repulsive of all is the female character who compromises all her worth, soul and spirit just to be drawn to either extreme.  In the end, all these characters may not be worth emulating at all.  Take care not to compromise those moral values for the sake of an immature love.

Knight and Day

Knight and Day is a story of a woman whose peaceful life is disturbed tremendously by a mystery man and wants to know who he is.

This action film and love story combined qualifies only as an entertainment film that doesn't need much thinking about.  It may be set in some exotic country but it failed to give enough substance toward a credible plot.

Could acts of violence be justified under any circumstance?  Probably, but only in the act of self-defense.  But to make this the very theme of the movie and to orient an innocent into this world is something else.In this world only the strong and powerful survives.  Enjoy the movie only because of its entertainment value.

Letters to Juliet

Letters to Juliet is a story about a woman who assists another woman in search of her lost love.

The story seems credible, easy to understand, and inspiring.  It highlights the beauty of a country other than the United States.  It is generally entertaining.

With love all things are possible; what was possible in the past may also be possible in the present and in the future.  True enough, love is eternally new.

Killers

Killers is a film about an assassin who wants to starts life anew with the woman of his dreams but ends up dragging her in the dark secrets of his past.

The twists in the story seems to be so zany it's believable and entertaining.  It just seemed that Ashton Kutcher is playing the role of a teenage heartthrob rather than an action star.  Nevertheless, the characters generally are apt for their job to bring the film to the level of comedy.

Beyond the zany plot lies a simple reality: Crime doesn't pay.  But there's something much more to it: Love conquers all.  Finally, give a person a chance to change.

The back-up plan

The Back-up Plan is a film about a woman who wants to have a baby by artificial insemination, but it comes in at a wrong time.

This classic Hollywood cinema tries its best to conform to its conventions by tying up loose threads of inconsistencies in the plot development.   There is a confusion as to the real motive of Stan (Alex O'loughlin) which makes him appear as the perpetual nemesis.  Overall, finished product seemed far away from its original concept.

One cannot feel at home with new concepts like artificial insemination to enjoy or be engaged into the film. The world of single parenthood not by consequence but by choice could not be in anyway acceptable by any normal human being, especially if seen from the point of view of the wholistic upbringing of the innocent into this world.  This may not just be a love story, but it tainted with something more confusing and complex that the audience is advised against watching it in the name of inspiration or just entertainment.

The ugly truth

The Ugly Truth is a story about a woman who seeks the advice from a male anchor who has more than enough knowledge of sex and relationships.

Of course, much of the credibility of a story relies on a powerful script. Though it borders on the profane, the film manages to catch up on the end. Still, much of the comedy is slapstick. Things just appear scripty with the cast playing too fictional roles only the writers can come up with.

The film, even though it justifies itself at the end part, still cannot compensate for the harm it did in labeling and typecasting the essence of love as perverse, raw, carnal - defining it as an "ugly truth." After the film, all men and women are just that - without any sense of redemption whatsoever. It also went against all ethical considerations of mass media - it managed to hurt the ethical sensibilities of individuals under the guise of comedy. Dignity or even respect is not a factor to consider in this movie. It is hard to clarify what love and lust are in this movie. There may not be any difference at all for the unsuspecting audience.

The Proposal

The Proposal is a story about a woman who risks being deported back to Canada unless she does something, like force her secretary to marry her.

Could it be that the script is tailored to suit Sandra Bullock? Probably so. But then again, the story is entertaining and the characters seem to be at home with their lines. The setting is exquisite, the romance is properly timed. The film succeeds with a tear-jerking ending.

Almost everyone knows that love cannot be forced. But much more that forcing love is the reality that all of us do need love. Love is not in receiving, but in giving it. Love is real when it is capable of loving the unlovable; much more, when the unlovable realizes that despite his/her shortcomings, he/she is loved. Then the magic happens, all because of love.
